Why Durham chooses Mobile Pet Grooming Durham
We started this business because traditional grooming exhausts pets and owners alike. Every protocol, route, and product choice begins with one question: how does this feel for the pet?
Meet Caprice McManus
Lead Mobile Groomer & Owner
Caprice is the lead groomer and owner of Mobile Pet Grooming Durham, with over a decade of one-on-one grooming experience across the Triangle. She built the business after years of watching anxious dogs and cats melt down in traditional salons.
Every van, protocol, and cadence we use is built around fear-free, cage-free care for Durham-area pets. She built the methodology around a problem she saw every day at the salon: pets who arrived calm and left traumatized, owners who gave up on grooming entirely, and dogs that ended up at the vet for stress-induced flares.
The credentials and experience that shape our daily work:
- Fear Free Certified Professional Groomer (FFCP)
- 10+ years professional grooming experience
- Specialty training in double-coat and feline grooming
- Locally owned and operated in Durham, NC
What "fear-free, cage-free" actually means in practice
Body language reading, real-time
We pause at the first signal of stress, not the third. The difference between fear-free and generic grooming is when we react, not whether we know the signals.
No cage time, ever
One pet in the van at a time. Same groomer start to finish. No crate intervals between bath, dry, and finish.
Honest scope
We tell you when a vet sedation groom is the right call, when matting needs a humane shave-down, or when a session needs to end early.
Self-sufficient vans
Onboard warm water, generator, and climate control. We don't tap your home utilities. Your driveway stays clean.
Specialty experience
Doodles, poodles, double-coated breeds, long-haired cats. Coat types where time and skill make the visible difference.
Local accountability
Sister to Dog Daycare Durham. Built and run by people who live here. Reputation is the only thing keeping our route filled week to week.
The van, the route, the day
Each van is essentially a small grooming studio on wheels: hydraulic table, hydrobath, climate control, generator, and a full set of grooming tools. The setup is what lets us serve clients regardless of their home utilities or driveway type.
We run dedicated route days through different Triangle neighborhoods. Hope Valley and Duke Forest cluster on certain days. RTP and Cary share other days. Chapel Hill and Southpoint have their own windows. This routing keeps drive time efficient and lets us offer same-week appointments throughout the service area.
Cat appointments are scheduled in dog-free blocks. Doodle and poodle appointments get the longer session windows the coat actually requires. Senior pets get padded surfaces and shorter, paced sessions.
Sister to Dog Daycare Durham
We're the grooming sister of Dog Daycare Durham, the Durham pet daycare that's been serving the Triangle for years. Many of our clients first met us through Dog Daycare Durham, and the two businesses share the same approach: pet welfare first, environment over speed, and honesty about what we can and can't do.
We share infrastructure, references, and the same commitment to fear-free care. If your dog uses Dog Daycare Durham and needs grooming, the same handling standards apply. If you find us first and need daycare, we'll vouch for the same approach on the daycare side.
Stories from the people we serve
Stories from anxious cats, senior dogs, doodles, and rescues across Durham, RTP, Cary, and Chapel Hill.
"Our 14-year-old Cavalier hasn't tolerated a salon in years. The van pulled up, the groomer came out alone, and Bailey actually let her brush him out. We're booked monthly now."
"We have two Goldendoodles and used to lose half a Saturday to grooming runs. Mobile in the driveway = both dogs done in 90 minutes, perfect teddy-bear cuts, no traffic."
"Our cat Mochi has bitten every groomer in town. The dog-free van made the whole difference — she sat through a sanitary trim and a brush-out without a hiss."
"Husky shedding ruined our floors. One de-shed appointment and we vacuumed up clumps for a week — but only what was already off the dog. Coat looks ten years younger."
"Our rescue Pyrenees was matted to the skin. They did a humane shave-down without judgment and walked us through aftercare. He came out of the van wagging."
"First grooming for our 14-week Labradoodle puppy. They didn't push a full cut — just bathed, filed nails, and let him meet the clipper. He hopped back in the van the next time."
